Lelalosa: The Least, the Last & the Lost

For the past two years God has put a passion in my heart to help women to get out of their sexual addictions. A year ago, God opened the door to start up Real Women of Genius, a group of ladies who got together weekly for accountability and support. Over the last few months, God has opened up new doors - doors that lead to the hearts of African female prostitutes.

The Least, the Last and the Lost of Southern Africa (LeLaLoSA) is what I call my ministry. A passion burns inside me for the people that the worlds seems to have forgotten, ignored, or given up on. I love working with the broken- those with addictions (e.g. drugs, sex, etc.), gangs, at-risk youth, prostitutes, inmates unaccompanied youth, the homeless.

I especially enjoy working with adults, helping them unlearn the myth that once we hit a certain age, we can no longer change our lives. In some respects this is true, for it is Christ who is changing our lives. But I believe that through Christ, anyone can change. I am a testimony to this.

When God first called me to Africa, I was not at a place to go. I wasn't living for the Lord at this time in life, in fact, the night I heard the Holy Spirit speack was the first time I attended a church in years. To be honest, I never gave it a second thought until Janueary of 2004, when I was baptized and recommitted my life to the Lord. This was the beginning of an intense 5 years of healing and growth, bringing me to the point where I am at now. I thank God for His mercy and grace for delivering me and allowing me to use my experience to help others to discover their own freedom.

No matter where I am at or what I am doing, I will be working with the broken, the forgotten, in some way. This is the life god has designed for me. I am going to Johannesburg, South Africa with More than Music, Christian artist Stephanie Pauline's minsitry. They will also send a short-term team out to assist me.

Our long-term vision begins with building relationships with these women and showing them Christ's love by loving them right where they're at. I will also be looking to see where God opens doors for future ministry, particularly in regards to His vision for me to work with women in prostitution.

I'm in the fund-raising phase right now, which kicks off with a benefit concert on Saturday, November 7th, at Pulpit Rock Church, from 6-8:30. As another inlet, supporters are able to buy jewelry from my jewelry business, Stone's Throw, which was started up to teach the women how to make and sell jewelry, so that they are able to make money in a much more glorifying way and hopefully eliminate the survival side of needing to prostitute themselves. Proceeds will help fund all LeLaLoSA's ministry efforts.

God has been preparing me for Africa for the past 6 years; at times this has seemed slow, painful and tedious, but God knows how much I needed to grow and change in order to not only be the best person I can be (both here and there), but so that my time in Africa will not utterly destroy me. God has worked on so many things in my life and my spirit. He not only wants me to go, but more importantly He wants me to be triumphant. It has already been quite the journey, and I look forward to seeing what God will do with His ministry.
